He solves crime for a living — but allegedly couldn’t get away with his own.
A rookie cop has been accused of trying to turn criminal mastermind when he allegedly swiped a pair of AirPods from a Lower Manhattan restaurant worker — and got caught on camera doing it, police sources said.
Terrence Gittens, 36, was picked up Thursday and charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, cops said Friday.
Gittens was inside Cava at 50 Spring St. just after 12 p.m. Wednesday when he allegedly grabbed an unattended pair of wireless headphones, which belonged to the restaurant’s manager, put them in his pocket and left, according to cops and sources.
But the eatery cameras allegedly saw the whole thing, sources said.
The manager alerted police after reviewing the footage and an Internal Affairs probe led to the cop’s arrest.
Gittens was assigned to the 7th Precinct in Lower Manhattan after joining the NYPD in July 2021, police personnel records show.
