St. John’s next two games postponed due to COVID-19

St. John’s is looking at a lengthy layoff.

After it’s Big East opener last Thursday against Butler was called off due to COVID-19 issues with the Johnnies, their next two games have also been postponed, the league announced on Monday.

Wednesday’s home game against Marquette and Saturday’s trip to Georgetown will have to be made up or be ruled a no-contest and not played at all. Georgetown is currently in pause and dealing with its own COVID-19 situation.

Last Wednesday, Joel Soriano and Tareq Coburn joined Julian Champagnie in COVID-19 protocols. The next day, at least two more St. John’s players tested positive. On Sunday, Champagnie came out of quarantine. He still had to pass cardiac tests to return to practice.

St. John’s next scheduled game is Jan. 5 at home against DePaul. If that game is played as scheduled, it would mark the Red Storm’s first contest in 18 days.
