Valerie Bertinelli shared an emotional video about struggling with her body image.
“I’m standing out in the rain because I’m doing my best to distract my mind from spiraling to a place of self-loathing, because I saw a picture of myself today that made me want to do that,” the “One Day at a Time” alum said in the video posted to her Instagram on Friday.
Bertinelli, 61, said that she isn’t happy with her body and that she isn’t sure if she will ever get to a place of contentment.
“I am not where I want to be right now, body-wise. I don’t know if I ever will be, but when I see it right in front of me, it really does send me down that path,” Bertinelli said. “And I am doing my best to be positive and more full of joy and hopefully my body will follow along. I’m not there yet.”
The mom-of-one then gave herself a pep talk, adding that she won’t “focus on all the shortcomings and flaws and imperfections.”
“We can all give ourselves permission to feel joy, be intentional about it, and remember to be grateful,” she said, “I am grateful, even through all the mess. ’cause there’s still good in all the mess.”
This isn’t the first time the Food Network host has opened up so powerfully on social media.
Last July she shared a video explaining how hurtful it was to see that people had commented she “needed to lose weight” next to a recipe she had posted online.
“Because see, I don’t have a scale or I don’t have clothes that I’m trying to put on every day, and I don’t have mirrors so I don’t see what’s become of me,” she said sarcastically, fighting back tears at the time. “So I needed that help to let me know that I need to lose weight.
She continued, “You’re not being helpful. Because when you see somebody who has put some weight on, my first thought is, ‘That person is obviously going through some things.’”
Things haven’t been easy for the “Hot in Cleveland” star.
The actress’ ex-husband Eddie Van Halen died from throat cancer at age 65 in October 2020. She and the rocker were married from 1981 to 2007 and share a 30-year-old son, Wolfgang. Despite their divorce, they remained close friends.
And just last month she reportedly filed for divorce from her second husband, financial planner and entrepreneur Tom Vitale. The pair were married in 2011.
Bertinelli has a self-help book coming out in January called “Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today.“
