Shawn Levy has opened up about what fans can expect from his upcoming Star Wars movie.
Earlier this year, Shawn Levy confirmed that he has signed on to direct a Star Wars movie, which won’t begin production until he completes the third Deadpool movie and an episode or two for the final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. While it’s still a long time away, Levy recently discussed his plans for his Star Wars feature.
“We’re in pretty early development still,” Levy told SyFy Wire. “My goal is to make a Star Wars movie that is like a lot of my movies, which is visual spectacle and a healthy dose of wish fulfillment, levity and big heart.”
The filmmaker went on to add the following: “If you had told me when I was making Big Fat Liar that I would eventually be making Deadpool and Star Wars, I would’ve said, ‘Are you kidding me?! That’s a fantasy, not a goal.’ So the fact that I’m getting to paint on these big, rich canvasses, it’s thrilling to me. I don’t ever for a day take it for granted or feel complacent about it.”
Shawn Levy is currently on post-production on the four-episode limited series All the Light We Cannot See at Netflix. He will then move on to the third Deadpool movie, which sees the return of Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with the Mouth and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
Star Wars on the big and small screen
The Rise of Skywalker is the last Star Wars feature to open in theaters. The J.J. Abrams-directed feature made its debut in December 2019 and earned $1.074 billion at the worldwide box office, a smaller than its predecessors The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. It also received mixed reviews from critics and audiences.
Disney and Lucasfilm have a slew of Star Wars features in development, with at least four being written right now. The companies are currently gearing up for the March 2023 release of The Mandalorian season three on Disney Plus.
