Robbery Arrest - Jose Maria Islas

On July 2nd at approximately 12:00p.m. Officer Paul Calamita of the Hamden Police Department was approached by a Cheshire resident, who advised him that 2 individuals attempted to rob him at gunpoint.

The victim reported that as he was riding his bicycle northbound on the Farmington Canal Trail, in the vicinity of Morse Street, he was approached by 2 individuals, one who was brandishing a firearm. The Cheshire resident quickly pedaled away to safety.

Moments later, Officer Angela Hall observed one of the individuals allegedly responsible in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Morse Street. Further subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Jose Maria Islas.

Hamden Police arrested:

Jose Maria Islas, 34, of 911 Blake Street, New Haven. He was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the 2nd Degree and Breach of Peace. Islas, who was detained at police headquarters on a $50,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on July 12th.
