Hamden’s synchronized swim team, The Hamden Heronettes, competed at the U.S. National Championships in Oxford, Ohio, on June 23. The Heronettes sent a team of athletes, ages 11 and 12, to represent the community in their first national-level competition. Coached by Lindsay Duncan and Liz Hogan, and swimming a routine with the theme “Jailbreak,” the team competed against 33 teams from all over the nation and received their highest scores of the season.
Synchronized swimming is an Olympic sport that integrates swimming, dance, gymnastics, and music. Want to give it a try? Any New Haven County swimmer, ages seven years or older, can join us a free session at the Hamden High School pool. For more information, visit www.heronettes.org or call Anna at 203.535.4520.
