Benjamin M. “Biagio” Mongillo

MongilloBenjamin M. “Biagio” Mongillo, 89, of Hamden, died October 27, 2011, at Mid-State Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Maria Marchetti Mongillo, of 60 years. Biagio was born in New Haven, February 3, 1922, the son of the late Antonio and Antoinetta Scafata Mongillo, and joined the U.S. Navy at age 18, during WWII, serving on the destroyer USS Nelson, receiving three bronze stars. He later was employed at Simpkins Industries for 38 years, retiring 20 years ago, and was a former member of the Annex Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by children, Carol Mongillo Negri of Wallingford and Robert (Amy) Mongillo of Cheshire, and three grandchildren, Laura and Daniel Mongillo and R.J. Negri. He was pre-deceased by siblings Mary Cofrancesco, Rae Andreoli, Ann Whittaker, John and Michael Mongillo. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
