Missing Suicidal Juvenile - Located by K-9 Unit

On February 24th at approximately 8:45p.m. Hamden Police responded to the Children’s Center, 1400 Whitney Avenue, on the report of a missing juvenile.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a female, juvenile resident had run away and that she had planned to commit suicide.
A short time thereafter, Central Communications received a call stating that a female was standing on Lake Whitney, in the area of Treadwell Street.
Officers subsequently observed the juvenile standing in the middle of the semi-frozen lake. The juvenile ran upon observing police.
Officers set up a perimeter, while Officer Craig Appleby and his K-9 partner “Hunter” began a track. That after tracking approximately 1/8 of a mile, through a wooded area, the K-9 Unit located the juvenile, who was attempting to hide.
The juvenile, who had fallen through the ice, was transported to Yale – New Haven Hospital for medical treatment.
